“Soup for Fines”

ECPL Offers Food for Fines Program during December

“Soup for Fines” is back at the East Chicago Public Library and will run througout the month of December.
Library patrons who have unpaid or overdue fines on library materials can wipe their slate clean by contributing to the East Chicago Public Library’s annual food drive.
The Food for Fines Program is scheduled to run from December 1
st through December 29th. Canned soup will be accepted as payment for fines. One can of soup will be exchanged for the fine of one library item.
Fees for lost or damaged materials will not be forgiven and the month long offer does not apply to items checked out from the Audio-Visual Department.  Only non-perishable items will be accepted during the drive. Donated items must not be damaged, expired, previously opened, glass jars, home made goods or USDA commodities. This offer applies only to items checked out from the East Chicago Public Library.
Soup donations will be accepted throughout the month of December at the Main Library, 2401 E. Columbus Drive, and the Pastrick Branch Library, 1008 W. Chicago Ave.  Library hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
All items collected will be donated to a local food pantry to assist those in need during the holiday season.
