ECPL Announces Appointment of New Director

The East Chicago Public Library board recently announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Marla K. Spann as the new library director. Spann who recently served as the Associate Director of Technical Services is a lifelong East Chicago resident. Her resume includes more than 26 years of professional experience as an East Chicago Public Library employee.

“We are excited to welcome the new director, said Diana Colon, President of the East Chicago Public Library Board. Our selection comes with complete confidence that Spann will do an excellent job. We look forward to her vision and leadership. We believe that her library experience will further support the mission to continue to serve our community.”

Spann, who is a passionate advocate for the East Chicago community and library system, succeeds Charles Moore, former Interim Director.

The Board of Directors conducted a national search that began in June of 2016, which generated more than a dozen candidates.
