Celebrate National Library Week April 7-13

Libraries strengthen their communities: celebrate National Library Week April 7-13
(EAST CHICAGO, IN) –The East Chicago Public Library joins libraries of all types in celebrating the many ways libraries build strong communities by providing critical resources, programs and expertise.
April 7-13, 2019 is National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and communities. Libraries are at the heart of their cities, towns, schools and campuses. They have public spaces where people of all backgrounds can come together and connect.
The East Chicago Public Library is celebrating National Library Week by hosting the following programs:
  • Monday, April 8 - 6:00 p.m. (Main Library) - The History of Jazz with Billy Foster. Respected pianist, composer, educator and producer Billy Foster will present a program on the history of jazz.
  • Tuesday, April 9 (Main Library & Pastrick Branch) Galaxy of Stars: To show appreciation for library workers and the work they do throughout the year, library users are invited to nominate a Stellar Library Employee.
  • Wednesday, April 10 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Main Library & Pastrick Branch) - Stop by the reference department at either location and enjoy some goodies. The youth services department will hold a Scavenger Hunt at the Main Library and at the Pastrick Branch from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 11 - 5:00 p.m. (Main Library) - Sip, Snack & Paint. Become an artist in a couple of hours. Join us for canvas painting. Take home your very own masterpiece that you created! Relax with sparkling juice, good friends, and painting! Class is limited to 10. Registration is required.
  • Friday, April 12 - 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (Main Library) – Patron Appreciation Day. Stop by and have your photo taken in our library photo booth, have your caricature drawn by our Caricature Artist, Donna Upshaw and enjoy music by a live DJ. Refreshments will be served.
In addition to this celebration, the library sponsors a number of monthly programs for all ages. Join the Knitting and Crocheting Club, Adult Coloring Group or Get Crafty take part in a Storytime, Chair Yoga, Cinema Nights. Check out the calendar at www.ecpl.org and get to know your local library. 
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
