Soup for Fines

For Immediate Release

Soup for Fines @ the East Chicago Public Library

EAST CHICAGO, IN (December 1, 2017) – Patrons can wipe their slate clean of overdue fines by contributing to the library’s annual food drive. Cans of soup that are not expired will be accepted as payment for fines from December 1 to December 28. The cans of soup collected will be donated to a local food pantry for distributions. One can of soup must be turned in for each overdue book. The offer does not apply to items checked out from the Audio-Visual Department. Fees for lost or damaged materials will not be forgiven. Donations will be accepted at the Main Library, 2401 E. Columbus Drive and at the Pastrick Branch Library, 1008 W. Chicago Ave. East Chicago Library Director Marla Spann hopes this activity will encourage patrons to return their overdue items. It is also an opportunity for the library to share the spirit of the holiday season with others in the community.
