ECPL Now Offers Library Resource Card for all Teachers in East Chicago

EAST CHICAGO, IN - There is no better time to sign up for a library card than in the month of September. In observance of Library Card Sign-Up month, we are waiving the fee to get a library card all month long. This year, as a way to help push and promote academic success throughout the school year, we are also offering library resource cards for all East Chicago teachers. In an effort to provide more access to free resources and services that can help assist educators in the classroom, the East Chicago Public Library is offering a Patron Type resource library card specifically for School City of East Chicago teachers, EC Charter School teachers, and College faculty that work in East Chicago.
Once registered in the Audiovisual Department, the new Patron Type card will allow teachers access to check out print and electronic resources for educational purposes.  “Sometimes the teachers that work in East Chicago do not live in EC or they live outside of our reciprocal borrowing area like Chicago, IL.  This will be a great resource for them. Accessing our electronic resources can be difficult especially when they are demonstrating our resources to their students, this card will allow them to utilize our materials and services.” says Leticia Martinez, Head of Circulation/Audiovisual at the East Chicago Public Library.

The library resource patron type card will be valid during the entire academic school year. At the time of applying for a library card, teachers should present their Driver’s
License or State ID and school ID. In order to check out audio and video materials, teachers must register in the Audiovisual Department. All rules still apply as the same for Adult patron type card in terms of late fines, and lost materials.

This September marks the 30th anniversary of Library Card Sign Up Month, a time when the American Library Association (ALA) joins public libraries nationwide to highlight the value of a library card.  Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year.

Sign up for your library card today.
